How many times have you seen the very best ball strikers on tour avoid aiming for the flag. They refuse to be tempted into a shot that offers danger. Where on the green should you be aiming?
How good would it feel to routinely Break 90? How great would it feel to Break 85? Could the answer be ‘greater consistency’ on the golf course? Small adjustments to your thinking might make a significant impact to your scorecard.
Is this you? The player prone to the infuriating topped shot? Remember two things: 1. Laugh it off, even the very best hit them sometimes. 2. Learn how to lower the chances of it happening again.

Riko Arends is a new golfer here at Milford and we've been so excited by his early progress that we decided to write a quick tale on his potential future as a golfer:
"In July 2023, Riko Arends developed a deep passion for golf. With committed practice and work with lis local Pro, Robin McGarr, he honed his technique and improved his follow-through tremendously. This led to Riko increasing his driving distance significantly, regularly hitting bombs over 200 yards.
A year or two down the line, he entered the Club Championship and amazed spectators and fellow golfers with his powerful swings. Despite initial doubts, he clinched victory with a birdie putt on the final hole. Riko's remarkable journey from novice to champion became an inspiring tale, demonstrating that passion and hard work can lead to success. His legend continued, motivating aspiring golfers to pursue their dreams with determination."
Keep it up Riko, we know this type of a future is definitely on the cards for you!

How does your swing look? We want to look at it with you. We don’t want to compare it to Jordan Spieth or Justin Thomas or Tiger Woods. We want to find the small, easy-to-improve areas which if improved, make a big impact on your playing experience.
It's been fantastic to welcome Christian Gallagher back to golf after a lengthy stint away.
With some new vigor, we've created a personalised lesson plan that's going to help him achieve his golfing goals this season. It's been magnificent to get him back out onto the course and build his confidence back up. Just look at his reaction below after a wonderful shot over the water on the 18th. These are the moments we love!
If you know someone who would like to make a stunning comeback of their own, or if you'd like to improve your own skills and increase your confidence levels, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Rob Griffiths is a dedicated new member who's been an absolute pleasure to work with here at Milford Golf Academy! He has set his sights on achieving greatness (in other words, a single-figure handicap), and let me tell you, he's well on the way!
With relentless effort and infectious energy, Rob's making remarkable progress on the course. Let's cheer for Rob as he continues to shine and inspire others to chase their golfing dreams!
If I talked about swing fundamentals and goals, most of you would yawn. But the image on the left is the one we most often see. The image on the right is easier to achieve than you might think, and it will produce much better results.
I know that some of you doubt your ability to have a great, or even good, golf swing. Some of you seem prepared to live with the playing experience you have. Don’t.
We want to help as many of you as possible have a better playing experience. What would be the improvement that would make the most significant difference? Why not list one or two? But be positive about how you express your goal.
This is the greatest game on the planet. Every shot that feels right is a beautiful experience. Let’s create more of them and the game gets even better.

Ross was looking for a new challenge and decided golf was something that appealed to him. He has subsequently purchased multiple lesson packages and during one of his on-course sessions hit a brilliant shot on the demanding par three 15th hole. He made a wonderful par which could have been a 2, but the hole quite simply wasn’t big enough!
Ross' confidence is growing every week and has even now become a 5-day member at the club. The smile says it all… well played Ross. We look forward to seeing you progress even further!

Are three-putts ruining your scorecard? Turn threes into twos and not only will your scores come tumbling down, you’ll also move from struggles to excitement!
A reliable short game is the glue that holds a round together. Get up and down a couple more times each round and not only will your game be on the up and up, but you’ll have a lot more fun and probably impress your playing partners too!
The best way to set up more scoring opportunities on your approach is to find more fairways from the tee. Other than it being easier to play from the fairway, it’s also so satisfying to walk off the tee and onto the short grass knowing that’s where you’ll stay. We want you to experience that satisfaction more often.
Spring has sprung and it's time to embrace the longer, (hopefully) sunnier days and use them as an opportunity to take your game to the next level! We have some exciting programmes and events for all ages and abilities coming up, so be sure to check them out below and book yourself, your family, friends and loved ones in!
Cleanly struck tee shots are the ticket to turning more par 3s into scoring opportunities. And what you do before taking the shot plays a big part in the quality of your strike.
Our Junior Easter Camp was a hit with these young lads. It was great to spend time with these six boys, where they learned a lot and had even more fun!
It’s a joy to see. could we have a future champ in the making in our junior academy? Let’s hope so.
Club selection can be the difference between a hitting the green to set up a birdie chance and missing the green to set up a tough up and down. Let's make sure you turn more par 3s into scoring opportunities!
We introduced Graham last year, where he spent the majority of his 2 previous years of being a member here at Milford playing on his own. He has not only developed his confidence and received an official handicap; he is now an active member of the club, met a whole lot of new friends and represents the club in club matches and competes in club competitions.
After some more work and fun over the past few months together, we're proud to announce his next milestone, winning the 18-hole Stableford Friday 13th Trophy. Congratulations Graham!
Brilliant work and well deserved. Finding the right coach can actually help! Wonderful news and once again, well done. You deserve the rewards.
Last week, we spoke about the importance of knowing your best and average yardage for every club in your bag. And when it comes to par 3s, there are three more yardages to consider if you want to make your own luck and hit more greens.
Looking for a way to get your kids off their screens and onto the green this Easter? Our junior golf camp is the perfect solution!
Through fun and interactive games, your kids will learn the ins and outs of golf, as well as develop skills like teamwork, sportsmanship, and patience (hey, they'll need it for those tricky shots). With our experienced instructors and top-notch facilities, your kids are guaranteed to have a swinging good time.
So don't let your kids be a birdie on the couch this Easter - sign them up for our junior golf camp!
You’ve probably heard that famous saying: “The more I practise, the luckier I get.” But we’d take that even further to say that it’s not just how much you practise, but how you practise.
Setting up a scoring opportunity on your approach is about more than making good impact with the right club. Use the power of observation to make your own luck and maybe you’ll get even closer to the pin.
We’ve got an opportunity to improve your performance
A consistent address is one of the foundations of a reliable, repeatable swing. Have you got specific address cues for your setup with every club in your bag? If not, we’ve got an opportunity to improve your performance and playing experience from tee to green!
Looking for added driving distance and bragging rights over your playing partners? Improving your posture helps increase your shoulder turn, so you can achieve your distance potential!
Imagination and feeling is the key to opening your best golf… Sit back and play your perfect routine and start to watch the ball fly in the direction you want!
Last chance to get your kids signed up for our February Junior Camps next week! Limited spots left!
This is a great way to get them into golf or to kickstart their season. With games, friendly competitions, new friends and a ton of new things waiting to be learned, your young ones are bound to have a ball!
Well, I hope you had some time to put into practice the tips from last month.
This month we will concentrate on using your imagination to create the feeling you require to help you to reach your own golfing potential.
Playing golf in your mind just for a couple of minutes every now and then is extremely positive and will improve your game without leaving your home! You can practice wisely and as we know the mind is the hardest club to master!
By now you've seen our Learn to Play programmes starting next month which is the perfect, fun and friendly pathway for you to get into this great game.
However, if you or anyone you know are still unsure, why not join our Free Taster session on 14 February? We'll introduce you to the coach who is taking the progamme where they'll show you the ropes and chat about how this journey will be beneficial specifically to YOU!
Click the button below to join the session. We can't wait!
Behind every fairway and green in regulation is a clubface set square to the target. Do this more often and you will raise your game and lower your scores!
Too many putts can be the difference between a memorable round and one to forget. When it comes to putting, less is more. And if you want to shave strokes and have more fun on the greens, we’ll need to start with some key basics.
Our Learn to Play programme looks to make the learning process as simple (and FUN) as possible, and breaks down the traditional barriers associated with the game.
We are also running a FREE Taster session, where you can come and see what all the fuss is about! Join our Taster by clicking the button below, or sign up for the programme immediately further down.
Last week introduced four different fundamentals that we can all work on to make sure we can play our best. This week's video is all about your aim.
If you position the club behind the ball, make sure the leading edge (which is the bottom of the club) is aiming at your target. Aiming incorrectly is the cause of many swing faults. By aiming correctly your swing will respond and more birdies will be had!
If you'd like to work on your aim or have any golfing goals for 2023, let me know! It would be a pleasure to help you put a plan in place so that you can get a lot more enjoyment from your game this year.
Find YOUR secret to more confidence and consistency
Being a confident and skilful chipper doesn’t only make the game loads more fun, it’ll also transform your scorecard. Make mastering the chip shot your new year’s resolution and let us help you achieve it.
Learning new skills whilst making lifelong friends, that's what junior golf is all about! We're very excited for our 2023 junior programming to kick off with the February Junior Camp.
I'd like to start off the year with just a few little tips to work on during the winter months: 1. Grip pressure 2. Aim 3. Balance 4. Tempo/Rhythm
Firstly: Grip pressure. What works for you that allows your club and body to work freely together? Try the simple drill in the video and let me know your thoughts…?
If you'd like to work on any of these aspects or have any golfing goals for 2023, let me know! It would be a pleasure to help you put a plan in place so that you can get a lot more enjoyment from your game this year.
Tired of those pulled or pushed iron shots ruining your birdie chances? Want to play more stress-free golf and enjoy more satisfaction on your approach to the green? If you answered “yes”, then the first step is for us to make sure you’re squaring your irons at impact.
How many fairways do you generally hit each round? What number are you chasing? Spending more time in the fairways is possible with an effective and repeatable swing.
On behalf of Milford Golf Academy, I would like to wish you all a joyful festive season.
It's been a pleasure for me to share my knowledge and I look forward to continuing our process together in the new year. Keep your eyes open for some interesting treats before spring and watch your game reach new heights!
I hope you've all enjoyed your golf this year and have set your sights on improving in 2023. I can't believe another year has flown by!
Thank you for your support and I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new golfing year!!!
Whether 2022 was another year in your lifelong journey with golf or the year that you started out, thank you for choosing to share it with us! We’ve enjoyed it immensely and look forward to seeing you all back out there in 2023.
A ‘kinetic chain’ of joints and muscles extends from your ankles to shoulders. When that chain is strong, your energy transfer is better, and your swing is more powerful and consistent. But one weak link can cause a breakdown. That’s why mobility matters.
We know that increasing your smash factor by just 0.05 can add 10 metres to your tee shots. But did you know that increasing your pelvic mobility can help you actually hit that smash factor more consistently?
Your golf swing has more power potential than you think. To develop that power, you need a strong foundation of mobility. How mobile are you? A swing assessment can tell us a lot.
You will no doubt receive a ton of marketing messages today with "unbelievable deals and discounts". This might lead to a lot of needless spending on items that won't necessarily bring lasting satisfaction to your life.
We'd however like to offer you the opportunity to INVEST IN HAPPINESS.

A more enjoyable golfing experience isn’t only about improving your swing. Simply making better choices has a positive impact. We’re here to help you with both.
With all the deals flying around this week, we can't think of a better gift than that of a better golf game.
The joy this brings, along with the memories made from shooting your personal best, breaking 100 or just being confident to get out of the bunker first time, is priceless!
Our gift cards are the perfect gift for friends, family or even yourself! Give the gift of better golf this festive season.
A more enjoyable golfing experience isn’t only about improving your swing. Simply making better choices has a positive impact. We’re here to help you with both.
Negotiating a golf course successfully is about weighing up risk versus reward. Knowing your dispersion patterns enables you to adjust your aim, so you can minimise the risk of going out of bounds and reap the rewards of staying in play.
When you think of golf’s scariest shots, what usually comes to mind is the drive on a tight fairway, the approach over a water hazard, the deep greenside bunker and the fairway wood off the deck. But there aren’t any gremlins lying in wait on the green, right?...
Hitting a successful approach shot is tough enough when there’s smooth fairway surrounding the green. Add water to the mix and “tough” can easily morph into “scary”.
You’ve split the fairway on a long par 4 and the green is in sight, albeit a long way away. You know that when you strike your fairway wood well, it has the distance to get you there. But you don’t strike it well very often...
I would like to share my time and knowledge with as many of you as possible. During October I am offering everyone the chance to come along and have a valuable experience with me in my quest to help my fellow golfers enjoy this game in their own unique style. If you book one session with me for an hour or more you will receive a 50% discount. For example, a 2-hour on-course session normally priced at £120 will be available to you all for just £60.
It would be a pleasure for me to see as many of you as possible. We can set you up with a winter programme to get you buzzing for the spring! When the winter is over and spring is in the air, why not be ready to enjoy your golf to your own personal level.
I believe everyone can improve if they know what makes them click! We all can hit the perfect shot so why don't we do so more often? Why not come along and find out what works for you?
Below is my lesson timetable for the month of October:
I hope you can all find some time to take advantage of this special offer. I've added some extra days and times to try to accommodate as many of you as possible.
Please feel free to contact me on 077 037 88672. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Your opening tee shot can be quite a nervy moment, even during a solo 9-holes when the course is quiet. But what about those Saturday mornings when the tee sheet is jam-packed and the clubhouse is full? Does that moment fill you with dread? It doesn’t have to.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to reschedule our fun monthly event last weekend. Luckily for you, that means it gives you an extra chance to book in for this not-to-be-missed event!
On Saturday 8 October, join us for a fun Scramble format from the blue tees that's sure to get you playing shots and seeing parts of the course you might have never been before.
Get your mates together and book your spots today!
We’re looking for 6 to 12 golfers to start a shared journey. From the 90s to 80s or 80s to the 70s on your scorecard. We want you to be the master of many golfing skills.
It's that time of the year again where your kids will be having a scarily good time at our Halloween Camp! These camps are all about giving juniors the opportunity to play golf, learn new skills, make friends and have loads of FUN!
Starting this month, on Saturday 24 September, join us for a fun Scramble format from the blue tees that's sure to get you playing shots and seeing parts of the course you might have never been before.
Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
We're looking for a few member volunteers that can help facilitate a weekly playing event for new golfers and/or junior golfers. In return, a lead volunteer will be hosted at next year's BMW Championship at Wentworth for an enjoyable day watching the world's best battle it out!
Each of you will be able to close your eyes and think of an exquisite golfing moment. Usually that will be the perfect shot, often unexpected, that surprises you AND your playing partners.
A fun-filled 10-week journey that will take you from amateur to aficionado. Under expert guidance, you'll cover everything you need to be able to book a round with your mates on the weekend and show them a thing or two.
An effective pre-shot routine is one of the main building blocks of a solid golf game. It’ll make you feel more confident and give you a more stable foundation to deal with tricky situations.
Selecting a club, executing the shot and hitting your target is an extremely satisfying experience. By using data about your game – like your dispersion pattern – correctly, we can add more satisfying moments like this to your playing experience.
See the world (or golf course) in a whole new light
A consistent pre-shot routine won’t only help you to keep more tee shots in play, it will also add more clarity, confidence and consistency to your overall game.
There are few golf shots more satisfying than a crisply struck pitch that hops and stops next to the hole. To help you hit more of these shots, we’ll need to take a look at how balanced you are.
Here's where they'll learn to play like their heroes
What a weekend of golf! The unbelievable atmosphere and traditions of the Old Course. Tiger's ovation on his final hole on Friday. Rory holing out from the bunker on 10 on Saturday. Then Cam Smith's magic on and around the greens to bring home the Claret Jug on Sunday. It was everything you could have asked for from a major at the home of golf.
When you need to get up and down, the type of shot you play will depend on your lie and distance from the green. But identifying the shot is only half the job, you’ll also need to choose the right club.
The Tour average for greens hit in regulation is just under 70%. For mid-handicap amateurs, it’s about 20%. When you’re hitting one out of five greens, being able to get up and down in two shots (scramble) is essential.
Golf doesn’t have to be a game played over four or five hours or even 18 or 9 holes. You can have a competition with 3 friends in 45 minutes before or after your day starts or ends. A Par 18 Challenge is a great benchmark to track your greenside skill.
With Father's Day on Sunday, we'll be sure he'll be glued to the US Open and thinking about how he will take on the course in the weeks to come. This is the perfect opportunity to get him an improved golf game to say thank you for being an awesome dad!
Our gift cards can be made to any amount and customised with a special message to make your dad feel extra special this Sunday!
A short-game coaching guru once analysed thousands of regular golfers and determined that the average length of the final shot to the green was 19 yards.
It's US Open week! With all the buzz around the golfing world lately, this promises to be another exciting week for golf. But closer to home for all of us, it's Father's Day on Sunday! Out of all the gifts, we know a better golf game is always welcomed with open arms.
1 game. 2 Scorecards. Multiple ways to play better golf
You probably know that the final number on your scorecard has more to do with your performance with a few clubs at the bottom of your bag: your wedges and putter.
You can’t fight the laws of ball flight. The result of your swing path and the face angle at contact is going to determine how your golf ball behaves. Read more here: https://bit.ly/37cCmNu
Go on a journey where the grass is short and hazards are distant
Most golfers shooting above 90 are struggling with the ball going right (for right-handers). If that’s you, hitting the ball straighter, or even with a gentle draw, gets you on a better journey.
By getting your child into golf at an early age, they'll be making new friendships that could last a lifetime. However, one of the biggest bonuses for your family is the enormous opportunity that it creates for some quality family time throughout the generations.
Shooting below 85 or even near to that number is very difficult if your first move on the downswing takes your hands “outside the line” (that’s a technical term we use to describe the relationship between your swing and the plane).
This is a great opportunity to improve your game in a relaxed and enjoyable environment, play more consistent, confident golf this summer!

Last time out, if too many holes were spoiled right from the off, by a slice or big fade off the tee that results in you being in the rough or trees, then the good news is that it's often an easier fix than you think.
There’s nothing like some healthy, fun competition to develop your skills. That’s why we love the par-18 challenge. It’s the perfect way to make short-game practice time with a friend or family member more fun and more effective.
We see so many golfers, across the skills spectrum, who live with more greenside anxiety and higher scores than they should. But it doesn’t have to be this way, there’s so much fun on offer around the greens.
The average golfer hits 3 to 6 greens in regulation per round. That means up to 15 holes per round will probably require a wedge shot within 40 yards. That’s why it’s good to get into the habit of regularly playing 9 holes of 40-yard golf.
This is how you can have so much more fun around the greens
While you’re playing a full 18-holes, there’s another game you should keep track of; your average from 50 yards in. Next time you play, keep a record of how many shots you take each time you play from 50 yards out.
From tee to green, these opportunities will make you more keen
We believe every golfer – regardless of skill level – can improve their playing experience. The trick to helping you play better golf in the future, is having as clear a picture as possible of where you are right now.
Our Academy Membership is all about helping you gain confidence and starting you on a path to becoming a full member at the club. To a place where you are going to get more enjoyment from your game and enjoy the benefits of being a club member.
On putts over 20 feet, regular golfers don’t strike the putter face at a consistent spot. Some strikes will be towards the toe and some will be nearer the heel.
How many times have you stood over a really long putt and just HOPED to get it close enough to survive? With the right lie angle for your putting stroke and setup, you’ll KNOW you’re getting it close.
Knowing you can comfortably handle long putts takes the pressure off needing to land your ball close to the flag on approach. When you’re able to consistently two-putt from distance, your golf experience is transformed.
Focus on what's important and make a ton more putts
The face angle of your putter at contact has between 80 and 95% influence on the launch direction of your putt. That means a tiny error could cause you to slip by the hole, even with great tempo.
Knowing only your ‘carry’ may help you clear the fairway bunker, but it’ll send you rolling off the back of the green. And knowing only your ‘total distance’ may help you stop your approach shot on the green, but it’ll probably land you in that fairway bunker.
Your total score after 18 holes has a lot to do with the clubs at the bottom of your bag. But before we can know just how much, we need to work out your short game score.
"Hi Robin, Just wanted to let you know I played today (nice to see you coming down Wildfowl) and came in with a score under 100. First time I have ever done that.
Thank you so much for all your help so far, this scorecard is for you."
This was an awesome message that I received from Ben Perry. We've been working on some great stuff together and it's such a pleasure to see it paying off! A 43 on the inward 9, way to go Ben! Just a matter of time before you are breaking 90 next.
It's always so nice to receive these messages, but I can imagine it must have been even better for Ben to send it!
If you have any goals for the upcoming golf season, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Let's get things started. We can even draft some of those messages for when you achieve your goals in the meantime... Thank you so much for all your help so far, this scorecard is for you."

Your “dispersion pattern” is the area that you usually land the ball. We determine this pattern for each club in your bag by taking an average yardage spread across several shots. With this knowledge, club selection and game management becomes a lot easier.
It was a pleasure to join our past and future captains of our amazing club at the Captain's Drive-in. Congratulations to Nikki, Angela and Peter for raising £17,000 for The Samson Center, which is a tremendous effort. We welcome Dean and Stephanie to their new roles. 2022 should be a lovely year!
A big congratulations also must go to Stephanie for a fantastic drive over the hazard on hole 16! A simple little tweak in her posture and away the ball flew.
Give them the opportunity to have as much fun as you do
Need any more reasons to learn to play this amazing game? Pass this message onto your mates, your cousins or even your grandparents, it's never too late to join in the fun!
It’s lovely to continually share knowledge and make friends in the process. A little Par 18 short game challenge has been a great success and it makes me smile to see everyone improve.
Roll on the spring!
Remember, these sessions run all day you can turn up at a time that suits you and for as long or short as you like!
If you have any questions or would like to join in the fun, please feel free to contact me via robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or phone at 07703788672.
Here's a stat that you really should be looking at
Hitting a green in regulation (GIR) means you’re on the putting surface in two shots less than par on a hole. But GIR is based on a scratch golfer’s expected performance.
Not sure how to get your kids off their screens and onto the greens? We have a fantastic programme for juniors, which includes all the basics they'll need to take the course on with confidence, obtain a handicap and have a huge amount of fun!
The key to more enjoyment is a long walk down the fairway
Yes, the statistics on the major tours now tell us that those with the longest tee shots are making a great living, but you’re not trying to make a living from the game.
Another Friday flies by and what a lovely experience it's been so far. We welcomed Etienne to the group last week and it’s a joy to see the Friday Practice Club growing with enthusiastic golfers. We can't wait to help you all smash your golfing goals in 2022.
It’s a pleasure to share knowledge and have a lot of fun at the same time, so please come and join us. The sessions run all day and remember, you can turn up at a time that suits you and for as long or short as you like!
Please feel free to contact me via robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or phone at 07703788672.
“You drive for show, but putt for dough” was a saying that used to have some relevance to tour professionals and the highly competitive. It’s a lot less relevant to them now (as proven by the big-hitters at the top of the money list) but was it ever relevant to the regular golfer?
Start your year in the best way possible with our Friday Practice Club. Let's achieve your golfing goals for 2022 together!
It’s always a pleasure for me to hear from you and answer your questions, so if you'd like to hear more, send me a mail at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or phone at 07703788672.
As we come to the end of another unusual and challenging year, we want to thank you for your participation and support. Our community is stronger as a result!

The first-ever Friday Practice Club began last week and I was fortunate enough to be joined by some fine talent! It was wonderful to start this idea and I’d like to thank (from left to right): Will, Graham and Elliot! Playing and learning new ideas is always a golfing joy. Long may it continue. Thanks, boys.

Forget scores and handicaps for a moment. Picture a shot you’ve hit recently that felt great. A shot that sounded sweet, flew true, and landed softly. Those are the moments we play for.
Unfortunately, the winter months are nearly upon us, but this is not a time to despair! It is the perfect time and opportunity to work on your own golf game with friends. Introducing our all-new Winter Practice Club!
It might be long and wet but let's get you home dry
Playing from long, wet grass comes with the territory at some courses during the winter months. But your golf experience doesn’t have to get stuck because of it.
How would you feel being the longest in your fourball?
Let’s create more great experiences for you. Let’s create greater thrills and better walks. Let’s have a look at your tee-shot efficiency: your impact position and consistency, and your launch conditions created.
Congratulations to the wonderful girls who completed the first Girls Golf Rocks sessions.
It was an enjoyable time and it was a pleasure to welcome new faces and talent to this fascinating game. Well done to all and thank you for making me smile!
If you would like to get your girl (or boy) into golf, we have some amazing programmes coming up, including our Junior Holiday Camp from 27 - 29 October.
Follow this link to book them in or click the button below if you have any questions!
Whatever their ability level, golf can help children with their physical, mental and emotional development. Among other things, they will learn gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, etiquette and how to safely socialise. Plus, it's fun!
We were overwhelmed by the amount of positive responses we got from our newsletter that went out last week. Our winter programmes that we have planned are going to put more friendship and social connection back into golf while encouraging you to reach new heights TOGETHER.
You might not be a Tour pro, but you can still win big
How fast do you swing the clubhead? How many yards do you hit your tee shots? With those two numbers we can calculate how ‘efficient’ you are with your ‘yards per mph’ measure.
Golf is meant to be a journey shared. In fact, well over 50% of golfers say that “fun with friends” is MUCH more important than being competitive. Golf is a ‘human’ pastime. We want to put more friendship and social connection back into golf while encouraging you to reach new heights TOGETHER.
Pure satisfaction is so much closer than you think
If you’re shooting in the 90s then what if it took less than 20 hours of learning, practice, and feedback to get into the 80s? Let's get those hours in before next season starts.
Golf is an amazing game for young and old alike. It has been lovely to welcome Veronika and her parents to Milford G.C. where they have been taking to the course and working on their skills.
It has been so rewarding watching them discover a new passion together and create memories to last a lifetime. If you, your family, or anyone you know would like to experience the benefits that this game can provide, please don't hesitate to get in contact with us!
Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
Like many of you, Nick is new to the game and is loving it. It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with him so far and this week was the first highlight of a long and promising golfing career! He managed to play a hole in regulation during only his second lesson!
It was brilliant and made us both smile. 332 yards no problem!
If you've got an eye on achieving a specific goal; from breaking 100, getting your first birdie or becoming a single-figure handicapper, we can help you get there! Book yourself in today so that you can smile as widely as Nick does now!
This won't surprise us, but will definitely help to surprise you
This is one of the craziest years we’ve ever experienced. So let’s hit the reset button and be even crazier. Let’s make this the year we play better golf than ever.
Away from the screen, real connections are made on the green
The past 18 months have seen ‘connection’ become more digital than ever before. While that’s enabled many adults to keep working, it’s deprived many children of school, sports and friends. Golf can make up for this with skills development, physical activity and friendship.
Knowledge is power. Power gets you further down the fairway
Discover Your Dispersion Beyond fear, there’s knowledge
Some tee boxes are especially scary and intimidating. But you can gain the upper hand with an understanding of your dispersion patterns. This knowledge enables you to adjust your aim and minimise risk, freeing you up to approach a daunting hole with more confidence.
Knowing your dispersion patterns also enables you to be aggressive when the situation requires it.
Using your dispersion patterns gives you a much better idea of where to aim to keep your scoring chances as high as possible. You can use dispersion to better manage a new course, and even to score on it as well.
The best decision you can make, over and over again
Game management is about weighing up risk versus reward. Knowing your dispersion patterns enables you to adjust your aim, so you can minimise the risk of going out of bounds and reap the rewards of staying in play.
If there's one thing we can help you improve this month, this is it
Dispersion patterns are easy to determine and once you understand them, you’ll know where to aim to minimise your risk of landing in hazards or out of bounds.
Congratulations to Peter Munro for achieving an 18.4 handicap after a short break of nearly 14 years!
It has been a pleasure to work with Peter and his family over the past year and what a brilliant achievement. Well done, keep up the hard work and roll on single figures!
If you know of someone who could use the amazing benefits of getting back into the game, or would just like some help yourself, give us a shout! We'd love to see you giving golf the "thumbs up"!
With so many exciting events such as golf at The Olympics and Ryder Cup just around the corner, won't the experience be so much better if we can share it with those who might not be playing golf yet?
It's time to get those who you care about most involved in this beautiful game. Our Learn to Play programme starting this Saturday is the best way to introduce your friends and family to golf!
Most golfers shooting above 90 are struggling with the ball going right (for right-handers). If that’s you, hitting the ball straighter, or even with a gentle draw, gets you on a better journey.
The Open proved to be an unbelievable display of golf from some top performers. From Louis dominating the first two days and seemingly not missing a green, Brooks' final day charge and Collin Morikawa's flawless display on Sunday.
However, not everyone faired as well and even the Pros need some help from time to time. Bryson was having a lover's quarrel with his driver and Phil Mickelson (former Champion Golfer of the Year) opened with an 80.
If you need some help like Phil or Bryson, we've got some great events lined up. Be sure to book your spot today!
We hope you're as excited about the amazing golf that's going to be played this week at Royal St George's! But why leave all the good golf up to the Pros when you can start playing more amazing shots yourself?
Why not pop in for a lesson or get your kids signed up to our Junior Summer Camps? There's plenty of great golf to go around!
Shooting below 85 or even near to that number is very difficult if your first move on the downswing takes your hands “outside the line” (that’s a technical term we use to describe the relationship between your swing and the plane).
We've been having an awesome time introducing golf to so many new golfers this summer. From young to old, this game has something to offer everyone.
If your little ones would like to get involved and have a smashing good time, we have just what you're looking for. Our Summer Camps are a perfect way for them to spend the sunny days outside, having fun and meeting new friends.
Last time out, if too many holes were spoiled right from the off, by a slice or big fade off the tee that results in you being in the rough or trees, then the good news is that it's often an easier fix than you think.
Most of my days are spent observing people whilst they play golf.
Grip pressure is still the most common mistake amongst golfers. Try this drill enjoy the video and please spend time working on your grip pressure so that you can play better golf and enjoy your time on the course so much more.
Please feel free to call on 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk to let me know how you get on with this.
A proud father learning this great game with his boys. What a pleasure it is to work with a family and see the joy golf can bring. Learning a new hobby together is a wonderful way to spend some quality time together.
If your family is looking to spend more time together, it doesn't get better than spending this time on the fairways. Don't forget about our upcoming summer camps for juniors at the end of the month! Click the button below for more info.
Friday's Thoughts: Do you use your senses productively to improve your golf?
This is the question we shall help you answer. Throughout July I will share with you all some wonderful tips and exercises to help you find your own natural game.
Enjoy the video and please do let me know your thoughts on the topic by contacting me via robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or 07703788672.
Whether it’s the immediate benefits like fun, outdoor exercise and family time or long-term benefits like physical and mental development, golf has so much to offer your child.
Monday's Experiments - Learning how to control distance
Distance control is a joy to learn and can be done quite simply. You can educate your senses by rehearsing the motion you need before you play the shot.
Enjoy the video and I welcome any questions you may have via robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or 07703788672. How do you control your distances?
Friday's Thoughts: Work on your routine around the greens
Going through the same process when analysing the shot you face is vital for growing confidence around the greens. Enjoy the video and work out what works for you!
Please feel free to contact me via robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or contact me on 07703788672 and let me know how you are feeling around the greens with your new routine!
Can you score 10 points? Or do you need some help to do that?
A short-game coaching guru once analyzed thousands of regular golfers and determined that the average length of the final shot to the green was 19 yards.
Golf has so much to offer. From the technical aspect of the swing and the health benefits of spending time outdoors, to teaching discipline and having a laugh. It really does have it all, but we're sure you know that already!
Golf doesn’t have to be a game played over four or five hours or even 18 or 9 holes. You can have a competition with three friends in 45 minutes before or after your day starts or ends. Par 18 is a great benchmark to track your greenside skill.
Just when you thought your dad had everything, you got him a whole new golf game! A set of new skills that will provide endless enjoyment and provide many a memory.
Learning to control your distance is vital for scoring and best of all, fun to learn. Not only will it build your confidence in your game; it will lower your scores and who doesn’t want that?!
Enjoy the video and please feel free to share your thoughts with me regarding your short game or any other part of your game via phone on 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk.
There are many ways to use your senses to help you understand distance control. My question for you is, what works for you? Find this out and watch your scores improve.
Enjoy the video! It’s always a pleasure for me to hear from you and answer your questions, so please keep them coming by sending me a mail at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk or phone at 07703788672.
You probably know that the final number on your scorecard has more to do with your performance with a few clubs at the bottom of your bag: your wedges and putter.
Monday’s Experiment: Use your senses and see your scores tumble...
Over the month of June, I will be sharing my ideas on how to use your senses correctly. Remember you are in control of these, so let’s use them wisely to shoot lower scores.
Please feel free to call on 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk. I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on how you use your senses to get that little white ball in the hole!
Sit back, relax and reminisce on some of the best shots you played throughout May!
It's a wonderful feeling to reflect on your best shots and learn from them. Finding out what makes you tick and perform is the pathway to you all playing better golf...
Walk away from every green with a smile on your face
No more three-putts. How often do you hit the centre?
On putts over 20 feet, regular golfers don’t strike the putter face at a consistent spot. Some strikes will be towards the toe and some will be nearer the heel. Many golfers overestimate how often they middle it. Here’s a quick and easy way to see for yourself.
Commitment is the way forward and it’s as simple as that! Enjoy the video and find your own PCP. It works and it’s enjoyable to find. Please let me know your thoughts and if I can help you in any way.
Enjoy the video and keep me posted on how you are doing via 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk.
Friday's thoughts: How does it feel when you commit?
I thoroughly enjoyed my practice session this week and it felt great practicing what I share with you. The good news is... it works! Allowing yourself the freedom to play, by committing to your shots, is a wonderful feeling which you can all achieve.
Enjoy the video and take the time to explore your game.
Please feel free to share your thoughts with me regarding commitment or any other part of your game via phone on 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk.
Knowing you can comfortably handle long putts takes the pressure off needing to land your ball close to the flag on approach. When you’re able to consistently two-putt from distance, your golf experience is transformed.
Monday's Experiments - How good does it feel when you commit?
Set yourself up and go! Sounds simple, so why don’t we do it? It takes a little bit of concentration to the cause, but when you do it the results are simply wonderful!
I hope you enjoy the video and as always, share your thoughts via phone on 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk.
What Is the correct definition of “Making a putt"?
Over the years I have seen many golfers, of all levels, misunderstand this question. I hope the video will verify the above question and lead to you all making more putts!
Please feel free to call on 07703 788672 or send me an email at robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk. I can't wait to hear what your thoughts are on "making a putt" and how you get on!
The face angle of your putter at contact has between 80 and 95% influence on the launch direction of your putt. That means a tiny error could cause you to slip by the hole, even with great tempo.
Committing to every shot you play is an aspect of the game we can all work on, but we need to know how to do it! Over the coming month, I will be sharing some simple ideas that may work for you.
Please let me know what you think via phone 07703 788672 or by email robin@milfordgolfacademy.co.uk
There's nothing quite like golf in the springtime, especially after the winter we've just had. So come spend some time with us this May. Soak up the sun, meet some awesome new people and most importantly, get that unmatched satisfaction from improving your golf.
A survey conducted at several golf clubs, revealed that less than 2% of golfers between a 20 and 5 handicap intended to have any coaching in the next 12 months. The attitudes to better golf were also interesting, especially across the age groups. We wonder what the view is at our facility?
Friday's Thoughts - What are you thinking when you're over the ball?
If your immediate thought is just to try to hit the ball then you could be causing more issues for your swing.
Listen to my tip in the video and contact me with your thoughts, and to discuss how having the target as your thought can free you up and make you a more successful golfer!

It was lovely to welcome Matthew, Hannah, and their two children Henry and Annabel to Milford Golf Academy. The perfect family fourball enjoying learning this great game together. With smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts, it was wonderful to see.
What a great activity to perfect together in the great outdoors. If you'd like to get your own friends or family involved, our Learn to Play group sessions are perfect for this! Book your spots by clicking on the button below.
Friday's Thoughts - Is distance really that important?
Beware of trying to hit too hard!
How important is distance if you do not have control? Many golfers are guilty of pushing too hard for those extra few yards and actually lose distance due to tension in the mind and body. Enjoy the video and please share your thoughts with me as this is a fascinating subject.

Yes, the statistics on the major tours now tell us that those with the longest tee shots are making a great living, but you’re not trying to make a living from the game. Most of you are looking for a great social experience and a good or better golfing experience.
It has been lovely to see so many golfers enjoying this great game once more. Long may this continue!
Over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed one common mistake golfers are making around the greens. Loft is your friend, so why not allow the club to work for you? Sounds simple and it is if you practice smartly.
Please enjoy the attached video and let me know what you think. It’s always a pleasure for me to answer your questions, so please keep them coming by replying to this email or phone at 07703788672.
We have had a year that has reminded us of how important the outdoors, space, and our health is. If you play golf, then you should consider yourself to be a very lucky person. Spread that love to people you care about.
“You drive for show, but putt for dough” was a saying that used to have some relevance to tour professionals and the highly competitive. It’s a lot less relevant to them now (as proven by the big-hitters at the top of the money list) but was it ever relevant to the regular golfer?
“You drive for show, but putt for dough”. Do you though? Bryson DeChambeau (1st on the Fedex cup ranking) is only 38th on the list of strokes gained on the green, but is 1st for the equivalent stat off the tee. And did you know Viktor Hovland (4th on the Fedex list) is 90th on his putting stat but 5th in strokes gained off the tee?
Monday's experiments - Focusing on what's important
This week is a very happy one as we can once again grace the fairways and enjoy this great game!
The clubface is your friend and it is the most important relationship you have whilst playing. Remember, the clubface sends the ball, so focus on your target and let it fly.
Monday’s experiments will continue so please ask me anything you like (preferably about your golf?!)
Enjoy the video and I look forward to hearing from you soon...
Everything you need to get started on an amazing journey
We can't wait to see you all soon! We still have a few spots available in our Learn to Play Programmes coming up in April. There's no dress code and we can supply all the equipment you need to get started on your very own golfing journey!
With less than a week to go till golf is back, be sure to make your child's Easter break that much more fulfilling. Having fun outdoors, learning new skills that will stick with them for a lifetime, and making some new friends; now doesn't that sound exciting?
Monday's experiment: Find the grip pressure that works for you
One of the most important basic fundamentals in golf is grip pressure. Without this, it's impossible to find your true tempo consistently. Finding yours will lead to you improving your golf without any dramatic swing changes. Now doesn't that sound good?
The beauty of this is that it is up to you how tightly you hold the club! Do you want to hold the club so tightly that you can hardly move and the club twists in your hands? I hope not.
Wouldn't it be nice to find the grip pressure that works for you, which allows you to swing freely and in balance?
Enjoy the video and please share your thoughts with me by replying to this email or phone at 07703788672.
The 29th of March will soon be upon us and we will all be preparing to play our first shot very soon. How will you prepare for this historic moment?!
- Imagine how calm you will be as you approach the ball. - Feel and visualise your performance being outstanding for you... - Imagine the enjoyment flowing through your body as your ball flies down the middle of the fairway.
Doesn’t this sound wonderful?! I hope you enjoy the video and will have time to work on you’re own P-C-P.
Please feel free to contact me by replying to this email or phone at 07703788672.
Listen in on how Robin describes how we can make sure you make the transition from the Learn to Play programme to the course as fun and as comfortable as possible.
Getting a grip on the basics of the game from an early age sets you up for life. These basics will stay with you, even if you do take a break from the game.
Monday’s experiment with Robin: Body and club working together
If your body and club are working in time together, this will lead to beautiful shots that you will enjoy over and over again. Doesn’t this sound wonderful?!
The simple exercise you will see in the video will help you to build this feeling and vision into your swing.
You don’t need too much space to work on this movement, so enjoy this experiment and try to feel as loose as a goose!
Please feel free to contact me by replying to this email or phone at 07703788672.
P-C-P is my own philosophy and I truly believe when you find yours, your game will improve without changing your own golfing style.
P (preparation) - C (calmness of the mind) - P (performance) = enjoyment!!
Whenever we do something well, we are calm. Calmness comes from preparation. If we prepare ourselves to succeed, we have a great chance of doing so. If we get these two things right, we are ready to preform.
Enjoy finding yours and please keep in touch as it will be a great discovery for your own golf game. If you have any feedback, please feel free to get back to me via email or phone 07703788672
According to recent reports from some of the biggest names in golf research such as Golf Datatech and the NGF, more and more people are turning to golf.
The only thing more exciting than being able to play golf again
Thanks so much to all those of you who have already signed your kids up for the Junior Easter Camps. Spots are filling up fast, so to make sure your child has an unbelievable time learning this great game next month, be sure to book their spots ASAP!
I hope you’ve enjoyed reminiscing, reflecting and analysing your game over the past couple of weeks. It’s an important part of developing your own game.
This week its all about working out the steps you feel you need to take to reach your own personal targets for this coming season.
Enjoy the video and take your time this week to work out what you will need to do to succeed in your golfing dreams! Contact me by replying to this mail or give me a ring on 077 03788 672.
Are you as excited as Graham to get back out there?
Before lockdown, Graham and I had worked together since August and it was a joy for me to hear that Graham felt ready to go for his handicap. Graham has been playing golf for a couple of years, but he has now developed a hunger to join in the club’s tournaments and feels confident to play with new friends. This was music to my ears. It was a pleasure to help Graham update his equipment in his pursuit of single figures.
Well done Graham and keep enjoying the challenges and charms that golf will continually bring. We can’t wait to see you all back out there, when circumstances allow it.
We can't believe it's March already! Although we might not be able to just yet this shouldn't stop us from getting excited about getting back out on the course. With the year speeding on, our Junior Easter Camps are just around the corner now.
Monday's experiments with Robin - Pre-shot routine
This week I would like you to work on your pre-shot routine and help you find your own PCP.
PCP is my creation and I truly believe by using this routine and finding your own personal PCP, your game will improve naturally.
Preparation - Calmness - Performance = Enjoyment
Everything you do before you play your shot is a vital part of calming the mind; which means you are ready to play and this leads to performance.
Enjoy the video and please get in touch with any questions. This is brilliant and when you find out what works for you you will start to play golf to your true potential. Contact me by replying to this mail or give me a ring on 077 03788 672.
Children today have so many ways NOT to go outside. Whether it’s TVs, PCs, tablets or smartphones; a digital world of instant streaming and gaming options is there to keep them indoors.
We're still waiting on the All Party Parliamentary Golf Group to confirm regulations for the return to golf but we can be confident in 1-1 coaching being allowed and our Junior Camps going ahead in the Easter holidays!
Our lesson diaries are open, and we've had lots of enquiries already. Please get in touch ASAP to book your lessons for the first few weeks as spots are filling up fast!
Enjoy your first round of golf back by preparing with a lesson from your PGA Professional.
See you all soon!

I hope you enjoyed last week's task and you managed to do some slow motion swinging. It is a great way to understand your own movement and will help you develop your natural swing.
This week I would like you to practice your aiming. I know this might sound bonkers, but it is the one part of the game you should continually work on.
Bad shots and poor movements have to stem from somewhere, and that my fellow golfers, is generally from poor alignment.
Enjoy the video and try and have a little fun working on aiming the club properly. You will be glad you did.
I look forward to hearing from you. Contact me by replying to this mail or give me a ring on 077 03788 672.
Children develop better when their family environment is supportive and positive. Golf gives families an opportunity like few other sports to spend several hours together. This gives you the time and space to provide your child with positive feedback.
Visualization is an important sense to develop. Imagining playing a perfect hole to your true level is vital in understanding your own individual game.
So what I'd like you to achieve for this week is to reflect on some of your better holes that you have played in the past and enjoy these priceless moments.
This simple exercise helps you develop your mind and creates a library of positive moments you can draw on when needed. Please see the attached video to see more about this exercise. It truly is a great way to build confidence in your own game!
Please feel free to reply to this mail or get back to me on 07703 788 672. I would love to hear your feedback or answer any questions you may have!
Over the next seven weeks I'd like to give you all some golfing homework to get you ready for spring and the return of golf.
Each Monday, I'll give you something to do to help you understand what works for you and how you can start to understand your own golfing identity. As we are all different.
Week 1 is all about understanding your swing. Try once a day to have a slow motion swing, leave a club somewhere convenient that you'll see it daily and have to walk past it. Simply pick it up, and make a swing in slow motion (as shown in the video).
You can then ask yourself some of these questions: - How does your swing work? - Are your muscles loose or tight? - What areas do you feel your swing change? - Are your body and club working together?
What you're trying to achieve, is a smooth motion with no unnecessary tension.
Please feel free to reply to this mail or get back to me on 07703 788 672. I would love to hear your feedback or answer any questions you may have!
Golf brings together a wide variety of people from all walks of life. For children playing golf, this diversity helps to broaden their worldview and gives them the opportunity to form new friendships.
Golf etiquette and values foster behaviours and skills that will help your child deal with life more effectively. The golf course can be seen as a safe and fun testing ground for real-world challenges.
Stay healthy, stay safe, and most importantly, stay active!
It’s possible to improve your golf game from home. Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, and certain exercises are particularly good for your swing.

Following the Government's announcement last night all coaching activities will cease until further notice.
If you have golf lessons booked your coach will contact you to reschedule these to a later date.
We will be in touch during Lockdown with regular news, tips, challenges and updates. We're excited about getting back to golf in the spring and look forward to welcoming everyone back to our club when it is safe to do so.
Please stay safe, and do reach out if you have any questions.
Having worked with Chris and Margaret for a few months now it is wonderful to see their efforts to improve are starting to show.
Through a joint passion and a shared determination to enjoy their golf they are both beginning to play to their own individual potential. It was wonderful to see their improvement and the smiles it brought to their faces was a joy to see.
Well done ladies. I look forward to working with you in the New Year. Roll on Spring!!!
Playing from bunkers and heavy rough is tough enough as it is. But winter adds water and mush to the mix, and without a game plan it can be tough to escape.
Muddy lies come with the territory during winter. But your golf experience doesn’t have to get stuck because of it. We’re here to help you play better golf this winter.
It's been a long month away from our beloved golf course, but what's made it even longer is not having been able to see all of you! Helping all of you achieve your goals is what gives us the energy to give you our best efforts. That's why last night's news has got us so excited that we can still end of this crazy year on a really high note!
Welcome to another session of "On Par with McGarr"!
This week coach Robin gives us an exceptionally simple, but effective drill that that you can practice anywhere and will help you take control of your short game.
Everyone knows that this is where the real scoring happens, so if you are able to control your grip pressure, you'll be able to get up and down more often for those precious pars (or even birdies!).
Take a look at the video on our Facebook page (https://bit.ly/3plMiIu) and why not give it a like while you're there. Let us know in the comments how many takes it took you to replicate this drill!

Some gifts are more intangible than others. The confidence of believing in your ability. The satisfaction of a crisp iron shot. Watching a ball disappear into the bottom of the cup.
We really hope you're all keeping well and healthy during lockdown! With the Masters around the corner, we thought we would have some fun.

Thinking about your golf game, where would an improvement make the most difference? Not just to your scorecard or your handicap, but to how much you enjoy the game.
The four most effective ways we can take your game to the next level
This month, we’ve asked you to consider how your year in golf has been so far and what areas you can improve. There are many aspects to consider, and it can all seem a bit overwhelming, but we’re here to help you stay on track.
Whether you’ve just started playing golf, or have lost count of how many years you’ve been playing, there’s always room for improvement. Think back on the past nine months of golf. What part of your game would give you the biggest thrill if you improved it?
If you’re scoring in the 90s or 100s, the question isn’t “can you go lower?” but “how low can you go?” And more importantly, “how much more fun can the game be?”
Some tee boxes are scary. That’s down to course design, something you can’t control. But with an understanding of your dispersion patterns, you can adjust your aim to minimise risk. That frees you up to approach a daunting hole with more confidence.
Only golf test robots hit it dead straight every time
Stay in play - an easy way to improve your aim
Only golf test robots hit it dead straight every time. Yet many golfers begin every hole trying to do just that. This leads to dropped shots, higher scores and less fun. Dispersion patterns are easy to determine and once you understand them, you’ll know where to aim to minimise your risk of landing in hazards or out of bounds.
